ThaiSim 2010 - Pre-conference workshop
21-24 March, 2010 (Sun-Mon-Tues-Wed)
Using, debriefing and designing games and simulations:
A hands-on, creative
workshop for teachers and trainers.
This
workshop/seminar will provide participants with first-hand experience of using and
debriefing a number of games and simulations for learning and training
purposes. Participants will also have the opportunity of designing and testing
their own games. The best games will then be showcased at the ThaiSim
conference, and perhaps published in a journal.
Day 0 - 20 March
- afternoon & early
evening: Arrival,
relaxation, introductions, ice-breakers, fun games.
NB: It is important
to arrive on Day 0, 20 March. The workshop will start early on 21 March.
Day
1 - 21 March
- morning :
Participation in a number of games and simulations.
- afternoon :
Participation continued; plus analysis of games played.
- evening :
Design groups established; brainstorming ideas for design.
Day 2 - 22 March
- morning :
Design of game structure and flow.
- afternoon :
Design of draft participant materials (roles, instructions, etc.).
- evening :
Playing and testing the games.
Day 3 - 23 March
- morning :
Revision and final participant materials; plus writing facilitator's materials.
- afternoon :
Testing the whole package; plus small tweaks.
- evening :
Workshop evaluation; plus party.
Day 4 - 24 March
- morning : Preparation for presentations in the ThaiSim Conference.
Notes
1. The games
will be showcased at the ThaiSim 2010 conference. Your participation in the
workshop will normally (if quality is good) guarantee you a session during the
conference.
2. If the games
designed during this workshop are of sufficient quality, they may be selected
for publication in the journal Simulation & Gaming: An Interdisciplinary
Journal
