Tips for writing and preparing your article

This page provides some tips to help you in your writing.

To get an article accepted, you need to take care of two broad aspects: the content and the form.

Your content needs to be logical, well organized and grounded in fact.

Good form (writing, grammar, style, etc.) allows the reviewer and the reader to grasp the content easily.

If, at the outtset, you pay attention to form, the reviewer will more easily appreciate your content.  This gives your article greater chance of being accepted.  After your article has been published, good form allows readers to understand your content more easily, and thus encourages them to cite your article in their work.

Quality

Please note that v1 your article will not be allowed into the review process if it does not meet minimal quality requirements for academic articles.  One way of ensuring that your ms reaches the required quality for admission into the review process is to have it thoroughly reviewed by two or three colleagues.  Following the author guide here, the check list and the tips for authors will go some way to helping you reach the standard.

In addition, you need to make sure that the contents are perfectly clear, and follow the usual conventions for articles.  For example, research articles need to include all the usual sections.  Descriptive articles need to include all necessary aspects, but no superfluous material.  Conceptual articles need to be impeccably clear

Clear and judiciously-placed visuals augment clarification in any manuscript.  "A picture is worth a 1000 words."

Many web sites exist to help you write a high quality article.  To find these, use google with search terms such as "writing academic articles" and "getting published".

You should also seriously consider getting professional help - see below.

At some point in the writing process, it is worth getting your ms corrected by a professional service.  The cost is certainly well worth the hassle of having to revise your article several times before it can be accepted.  Please remember that a ms that does not come up to the highest writing standards will not be allowed through to production.  Probably the best moment to ask for professional editing work is at the point where you submit the first version of your ms.
